Would you like to make a difference? Feel good about yourself? Then join the millions of North Americans who volunteer. According to research, the benefits of volunteering include a healthier, happier, and even longer life.

This month in particular brings volunteering to mind because April 27 through May 3 is National Volunteer Week. Begun in 1974, it is an annual celebration to thank volunteers and to recognize their many contributions.

Another day devoted to volunteers occurs on December 5. This is International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development, begun in 1985 by the United Nations to recognize the contributions of volunteers around the world.

Clearly, volunteers are well appreciated and needed. And, the choices of how to donate your time are endless. How do you choose? Here are a few tips:

Find the Right Volunteer Job for You

Many opportunities just might surprise you. The following is a sampling of unusual possibilities that might pique your interest.

Whatever you choose, you are sure to feel valued, connected, and proud of what you do.
