Washington's Birthday (observed)

Today, we mark the birthday of president George Washington, born on February 22, 1732. When the Uniform Monday Holiday Act took effect in 1971, the federal observance of Washington’s Birthday was moved from George Washington’s birth date, February 22, to the third Monday in February, making for a three-day weekend for many workers. Several states, however, have officially named this day Presidents’ Day to honor both Washington and Lincoln (whose birthday was on February 12, 1809), or all U.S. presidents. You will find an excellent overview of all our presidents, including brief biographies of them and information about their families, at the official Web site of the White House . This site also features information of interest to kids, such as Historical White House ABCs .
