Full Thunder Moon

Traditionally, we have called July's full Moon the "Full Buck Moon." This name comes from our Native American and Colonial past when the Moon was used to track the seasons. Bucks begin to grow new antlers at this time.

July's Full Moon was also known as the Thunder Moon, because thunderstorms are so frequent during this month.

Since July of 2015 has TWO full Moons, we'll designate the Full Buck Moon to the first full Moon (July 1) and the Full Thunder Moon to the second full Moon (July 31).

In popular culture, many people now refer to the second full Moon of the month as a "Blue Moon."
