At The Old Farmer's Almanac, our sole goal is to help gardeners have the best year ever with The All-Seasons Garden Guide. Here's a sampling of just some of the great information included in the 2009 edition:

Edibles

  • Learn how easy it is to have a vegetable garden, in the ground or in a pot. Fresh, homegrown vegetables can improve the health of your family and your finances!
  • While you're at it, try growing vegetable varieties that you'll never see at the grocery store. They're known as heirlooms, but growers just call them yummy.

Do-It-Yourself

  • Grow your own gourds! Low-maintenance and quick growing, gourds, can be made into a bounty of long-lasting items, including pink flamingos (instructions in this issue).

Landscape Design

  • Gardeners are growing up—on the roof that is. Roof gardens are beautiful, can insulate a building from heat and cold, and can extend the life of the roof.
  • Catch the rain! Learn how to use the water that runs off your roof and pavement.

Ornamentals

  • Tired of mowing grass? Grow a carpet of green that's herbal, ornamental, and low maintenance. See how to get started (you may already be well underway)!
  • Love to garden? Bring "love" to the garden with all of a few of the dozen plants that symbolize or celebrate romance. Examples include bleeding heart, forget-me-not, and love-in-a-mist.

Reference

  • Essential information—a manure guide, the USDA Zone Map, and first and last frost dates, plus a Sources List for ordering plants and products mentioned in this issue—promise a bountiful and beautiful growing season.

The 2009 All-Seasons Garden Guide, just $3.99, is available on newsstands at Wal-Mart, Lowe's Home Center, Kroger, Albertsons, and Barnes & Noble stores.
