Pre-made cookie dough can have a strange, almost chemical-like aftertaste. These homemade sugar cookies have the tender, homemade taste that you’ll want to sink your teeth into!

Ethel’s Sugar Cookies

Looking for a thick and cakey iced sugar cookie? This is the famous sugar cookie recipe—from the Betty Crocker Cooky Book—that we make every year and includes an icing recipe. They remind us of the sugar cookies that we ate as children. It has a great “bite” with just the right amount of sweetness and a hint of vanilla. The combination of butter and shortening creates a nice sturdy dough that’s easy to roll with a rolling pin.

Classic Sugar Cookie Cut-Out

These are the easy classic sugar cookie cut-outs which are golden in color, crisp and light—perfect for cookie cutters. They hold their shape and also freeze well, unfrosted. Decorate with frosting or, if desired, with colored sugars, sprinkles, etc.

Soft Sugar Cookies

If you love the round, puffy sugar cookie, this recipe is for you! These nicely spiced cookies have an excellent flavor and texture without anything extra. Kids love rolling the balls in the sugar and squishing them down on the baking sheet.

Honey Cutout Cookies

A healthy dose of whole-wheat flour and honey gives this classic a wholesome twist. The flavor isn’t too sweet and the texture is very easy to work with for rolling and cutting out shapes. The cinnamon taste is just enough, not too strong. Decorate with frosting if you wish (recipe included).
