Are You Planting Seeds?
This tool is NOT for sowing seeds. It's for plants that you typically transplant from the nursery or your greenhouse into the ground. For seeds, click to see our "Best Planting Dates for Seeds" chart.
How to Read Transplants Chart
- The "Planting Dates" column, which provides dates safe from frost, is based on historical averages; it's not an annual forecast.
- The "Moon Favorable" column gives the best planting dates based on the Moon's phases, based on an age-old practice that suggests that the Moon in its cycles affects plant growth.
- Aboveground crops marked *
- (E) means early planting; (L) means late

I agree that these are not that thorough or specific. I am growing a number of vegetables and flowers not on any lists here, some started indoors and some outdoors. I find myself seeking other websites for the information I need which leads me to believe the Farmer's Almanac may not have been a good subscription.

Thanks for the FREE information. I am wanting to plant grape plants next month. I may have missed it but I am thinking the dates for transplanting would be the same for it as well as vegetables.

Late winter to early spring is the best time to plant dormant, bare-root grape plants. See our Grapes page for more gardening advice: http://www.almanac.com/plant/grapes
Hi, Do you have a similar
Hi, Do you have a similar calendar for flowering plants, both annuals and perennials?
Thank you.
We no longer have flowers in
We no longer have flowers in our charts for a variety of reasons. Traditionally, dates for "all flowers" for Region 2 was 4/15 to 4/30. For best days by the Moon, consider transplanted flowers "aboveground" (so plant during the light of the Moon from the day that the Moon is new to the day it is full). If you are seeding indoors, we do have a list of best flowers to start indoors here:
