Thank you to all for helping us shepherd in a name for our (unofficial) mascot of The 2011 Old Farmer’s Almanac!
We tried out a bunch of names for our little ewe and she responded to . . .
ALMA!
It so happened that more than 100 of our readers thought that Alma fit, too. We randomly selected one reader’s name from all of those who submitted the winning name, Alma.
Congrats to Michelle Lutz! We’ll be sending you a bundle of Almanac products, including copies of The 2011 Old Farmer’s Almanac and Everyday Recipes cookbook.
- Here are some more of our favorites—
- Woolimina
- Lady BaBa
- Baa-rometer
- Baabra
- Berneece LaFleece
- Ewenice
- Fleur de Fleece
- Rebaaa
- Woolmaa
Thank ewe for helping us give our woolly 2011 mascot a name! Some of the names were hysterical (as you can see right on this page) and we had a flock of fun!

How about...Lama Can (That's almanac letters rearranged). Just imagine a weekly piece such as "Lama Can" cook...and feature a recipe, or "Lama Can" garden...provide a tip on planting a vegetable, or "Lama Can" dish up some useless trivia....Or "Lama Can" can and provide tips for canning garden surplus...or "Lama Can" have fun and provide neat places to visit or "Lama Can" make a money saving project or "Lama Can" recycle and offer simple recylcing tips....Ole my goodness, just think of the possibilities!!

I liked Ewenice. It's an old fashioned name and she(?) looks like a Ewenice. And I liked the play on the spelling. =)

I picked Lucy
after lacunocus cirrocumulus due to the form of that cloud formation sometimes looking like a sheeps wool coat. I assumed it was female due to the description of "this friendly gal."

I suggested Weatherby as his name. So much of what the almanac is about center's around the weather.

Ewestice Wooly-Wool.
I know “wooly wool” is redundant, but it sounds old fashioned, and I think it fits with the name Ewestice.

I went with the name Cumulus because she looks just like a puffy white cloud. This cloud also represents fair weather.
