Question: Why do you add rock salt to ice to keep it from thawing when making homemade ice cream?
Answer: Salt in fact makes the ice melt faster. For ice to melt faster, it must draw heat (BTU's) from the surrounding atmosphere and the ice cream mixture thus causing the ice cream mixture to freeze.
