Well, after being by-passed for the first 175 lay offs in his plant, my hubby got word last night that he's included in the next 15 lay offs! Big bummer! I won't be able to get online much anymore now, but, I'll try to check in from time to time.
So sorry to hear it mouse. Both my son who has a masters degree and I am laid off. I have been off since March and he has been off a year now. Will take employers a long time to start hiring again I fear. This SUCKS BIG TIME !!
Ohh nooo Mouse!!! I am so sorry! Is there a chance he'll be recalled back?
I am so sorry honey!!!
Deb
The experts are now saying that the recession is over. Tell that to people still getting laid off.
When I got laid off in 1991 the 1st President Bush had just announced that that recession was over. Lot of good it did me.
Hopefully it will be short lived. We will miss ya mouse.
We were in a similar situation the end of last year/ beginning of this one. The only suggestion I have for you is to stay positive--and I know that is easy to say. I wish your family the best and want you to know that you are not alone in this. HUGS!
Thank you everyone! I've been out of work for two years now...still waiting on disability...he gets to work tonight, then that's it...they're hoping to start rehiring after the first of the year...lets hope so!
Oh Mouse!
I am so sorry!
I know it's not much consolation.. my daughter just earne dher 2nd Bchelor's Degree in Nursing.. Tere is a freeze on hiring in PA hospitals. Here in Va.. the police, and firefighters are also not hiring.
Recession over huh? For the greasy politicians maybe.
I hope he can pick up something, maybe even part time, until things turn around and they rehire.
Hang in there Mouse.
My thoughts and prayers are with both of you. It won't be easy but try to rely on each other, encourage each other and keep what you have together. It is easier together than going separate ways . . . . Best wishes and blessings Mouse.
.
Mouse, so sorry to hear this news, hope you hang tight, at least he wasn't in the first batch.
Talk to us when you can, will miss you!
come up with something in the line of a hobby, that he can do to earn a few bucks here and there. I know that it would be iffy at first, BUT that's the way that good ideas are started.
My ex. may be finished early next year as a couple of departments in her company are amalgamated.
Thank you everyone! He's off now on his last shift...my last night alone...actually I'm happy to not have to be alone at night anymore! We know that obviously money is going to be even more tight than it has already been (if that's possible!), but, we also feel blessed that we now will have the time together! We are hoping to really kick out all the projects we have started (especially since we've already purchased all the supplies, so now it's just the "sweat equity" that needs to be done! Maybe I just might get my kitchen finished after all! We're trying to come up with ideas of things that we could possibly make out of the bamboo we're harvesting to use to sell and make some extra money with. Anyway, as the saying goes...When one door closes, it's because another one has opened and you just have to find it!
Personally I feel it's a real blessing that now we'll have a lot of time together...because the Dementia is taking it's toll on me, things have gotten worse...I want to spend all the time I can with my sweetheart while my time is good!
I'm so grateful for all my wonderful friends here!
Is this a temporary lay-off? Subject to a recall?
Hoping all goes well for you all, praying for you....Betty
Hey Mouse - have you thought about making wind chimes from the bamboo? Lots of folks around really want bamboo wind chimes. I had one until it wore out and I'd love to have another. I'll take one if interested in making them. Let me know. All sizes can be sold. I like the big ones with low tones.
Hey Betty - Nice to have you back on TOFA !!
Mouse - Hope things are going OK for you guys. I'm sure your hubby applied for unemployment and I hope there weren't any problems. I am thankful for that unemployment money that rolls in, believe me !!!
At least there is unemployment, and many states still getting extended benefits too.
I know you are a very careful budgeter Mouse, and oft times, there are programs in unemployment, for re-training for new jobs.
Good thoughts and prayers coming your way.
Betty
I appreciate all of you, and your kind thoughts! We're doing fine. Yes, Don will start collecting "Unenjoyment" next week. We've been so busy getting all the things done around here that we haven't been able to get done! Sorry to have worried anyone! I don't expect that I will be on much anymore for awhile...we are just trying hard to get as much done as we possibly can while he's off work. I'll check in when I can.
Take care everybody!
Betty - FYI - Just got an email from mouse, she said all is well and they have just been very busy doing projects that they have wanted to get done.
