The Holiday's are known for proposing, but I'm not a traditional type of person, are there other times that would be better?

You would have to give the astrologer your birth information as well as your potential partner. He will determine the best energy available between you and the best day to propose. However, in a more simple way, you would need to see if Venus, Moon and Mars were favorable to you on a particular day.
