I was told to put the ashes from our fireplace in the area I am going to plant the beets but I was to mix it with the soil then plant is this true or not I wanted to plant today but I don't want to do something to mess it up PLEASE HELP

Yes, beets love it.

Just so there were no chemicals tossed into the fireplace like those creosol cleaning logs.
