Our Forums Have Closed

Hi, Everyone,

We have decided to close the Almanac forums.

The good news: Now you have the ability to comment on the www.Almanac.com Web site pages!

The Web site has grown tremendously, with 12 million readers every month. You'll find folks who are weather watchers, gardening enthusiasts, stargazers, and more. Find advice, get answers to questions, and share your experiences.

Find the Almanac here, too!

Finally, a big THANK YOU to all those who have participated in and looked after the forums over the years!

Sincerely,
The Old Farmer's Almanac

We have planted collards. When should we harvest, how do you pick? After picking do you pull the plant?

don't pull

I leave about 1/4 of the leaves (pulling the outside leaves) and hill up soil around the base of the plant. if the plant gets too tall, just bend over and bury the stem. It will keep producing. If you have never tried steaming your collards with a little Italian dressing it is awesome. We won't eat them any other way now. Happy harvesting.
