My mother in law has asked me to try to figure out a squash that her mother grew when she was a child. She called them roasters. They were colored like an acorn squash but were shaped like a big cucumber. Any ideas?

to me she had the name already !! :) Sounds like one of the old "heirloom" squash ...Candy roasters , maybe the North Carolina Candy roaster variety... another from North Georgia and a melon type..
