Shadow Of The Predator

Screams of terror join the night
intermingling with the chirps and croaks
of crickets and fat frogs.
A thousand stars undimmed by city lights
and the screams continue
as moths fly pursued by bats that deftly avoid manmade objects like me
I walk toward that horrible howling
surrounded by a bucolic sea.
When abruptly, the gentle sounds of nature
again take precedence
and I have seen the shadow of the predator dance with death.
