Philodendrons

Philodendron THERE ARE SOME new, colorful philodedrons on the market. 'Brasil', (see photo) from Twyford, sports lemon- and lime-colored stripes on every green heart-shaped leaf. The vining plants make excellent hanging baskets. 'Autumn' and 'Prince of Orange' from Agri-Starts have burnt- and bright-orange leaves. These philodendrons are self-heading, meaning that there are multiple growth leaders, and their leaves are thick and broad to tolerate low humidity. Other colorful philodendrons from Agri-Starts in the same class include 'Moonlight', a brilliant yellow, and 'Black Cardinal', which has deep-burgundy leaves that are almost black. Next time you visit a garden center look for these varieties.
