I've heard of a small, wild tomato being developed that is supposed to have more vitamins than other tomatoes. What can you tell me about it?
A wild tomato from the Galapagos Islands, called Lycopersicon cheesmanii, is bright orange and the size of a pea. It contains 40 times the vitamin A of commercially grown tomatoes and also 40 times the beta-carotene. Growers have crossed it with 'Flora-Dade' to create a hybrid about one inch in diameter. This crossbreed is not yet universally available but should be soon.
