Gardening Questions and Answers

A new gardening question of the day appears every day of the year on the front page of Almanac.com. Below is the answer to one of the questions from our Gardening Questions and Answers Archive where you can find over 400 more gardening questions (with answers!).

Question:

Should my harvest of onions go directly in the root cellar?

Answer:

You should allow onions to dry for several weeks before you store them in a root cellar or any other storage area. Spread them out on an open screen off the ground to dry. Don't store any onions that are bruised. Keep the storage temperature near 32 degrees F. Slight freezing will not hurt onions if you don't handle them while they are frozen.
