I bought a yellow onion inI bought a yellow onion in the grocery store, and then didn't get around to using it. My husband and I noticed that the onion started to grow greens, so I decided to see what would happen if I popped it into a pot with some regular soil in it. Now it's thriving and I'm not really sure what to do. It has about 2 foot long greens, and there seems to be two main stalks. The two stalks started out extremely close together, and now they are a lot farther apart. I planted it a lot deeper than the article says (whole onion under the soil in my case). I was wondering if I can harvest some of the greens and use them like green onions? And how will I know when to use the onion or not? And how will I be sure to harvest it without killing the plant completely?
