As a child growing up in Saskatchewan in the '30's,when we used horses to farm two sections of land and grew ALL our food there were no tractors, combines, electricity, running water, etc, the Farmers Almanac was the 'Essential' life book. I learned the different phases of the moon and how to use them--still use them today and I'm 78.

Have loved the Old Farmer's Almanac for years, but it paid off best by accurately predicting Southern California weather for our outdoor 50th High School reunion and our daughter's wedding in our back yard. Looking for same service for Family reunion picnic March 23 2013 in local park.

I have not looked at an Almanac for some time due to being very most recently with house repairs and family expansion and support...
Today I have not only spent hours of absorption, and delight at my renewed acquaintance - I have also found many articles of interest to share with my teenage students. Articles that pique the curiosity and raise questions, as in the case of weather prediction. These form a great way in to exploration and deeper understanding of issues that are of vital importance today, such as diversity of cultural beliefs.
Taking the valuable, beneficial knowledge from the old and bringing it forward into the present so as to make positive progress through the benevolent use of knowledge: this is - this is the truest sense of the word "conservative".
