Another recipe-contest winner for Charlie. For best results, use a spicy and strong-flavored applesauce so the crumb mixture doesn't overpower the apple flavor.

Yield: Makes 6-8 servings.

  • 4 cups crumbs (cookie, cracker, or dried bread crumbs)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 4 cups seasoned applesauce

Blend crumbs (which may include wheat germ or sesame seeds to total 4 cups), honey, cinnamon, and oil. Put 1/3 of the mixture into a greased oblong glass baking dish. Put half of the applesauce on top of the crumbs. Repeat crumb layer and applesauce layer. Top with last third of crumb mixture. Chill and serve.
