These family favorites are easy to make ahead, and can be frozen months before eating. You can freeze one pan and bake the other. Lamb or hamburger works great, or a half-and-half mix.
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 3 pounds ground beef or lamb
- 1 13-ounce can evaporated milk
- 2 cups oatmeal
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- Sauce:
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1-1/2 cups brown sugar
- 1/2 of an onion, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Mix all ingredients together. Form into walnut-sized balls and place in single layer in 9"x13" pans. Freeze until needed or bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees. Top with sauce or your favorite BBQ sauce.
