This is a favorite family recipe handed down from my grandmother who came from Nova Scotia.

Yield: 8-10 servings

  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 4 or 5 potatoes, mashed
  • 4 onions, chopped fine
  • 1/2 loaf stale bread, torn
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
  • 4 tablespoons savory
  • 2 eggs

Add butter to mashed potatoes. Mix in onions, bread, salt, pepper, parsley and savory. Add eggs when mixture has cooled down. Stuff turkey and cook accordingly.

This is also good just baked, uncovered, in a dish for 30 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees.

I tried this dressing for Thanksgiving as my husband doesn't like celery! Note: "savory" is an herb. I found it at the natural foods market.
