My mother use to fry cabbage and after I grew up I made a main dish out of it. When I take it to potluck dinners, people just love it. If you like cooked cabbage, you will love it, too!

Yield: Serves 4

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Start to Finish Time: 45 minutes

  • 1 large head of cabbage, cleaned and sliced
  • 12-16-ounce package (ring) of Turkey smoked sausage
  • 1 large spoonful of bacon grease
  • Splash of vinegar

Using a large, cast iron skillet, melt a large serving spoon of bacon grease over medium heat. Place sliced cabbage into hot grease (it will fall apart into shredded pieces). Cook, covered, stirring about every 5 minutes. Continue cooking over medium to med-high heat until cabbage is limp and partly to mostly brown in color. Turn heat to low and add turkey sausage that has been sliced or chunked, cover and continue cooking until sausage is heated through. Add vinegar (to taste), cover and cook for another 5 minutes or so. Serve and eat. Serve with side dish and whole grain bread of your choice.
