A good stick-to-the-ribs doughnut, frosted with maple cream. The spices can be increased, if a stronger flavor is desired.
Sift dry ingredients together. Beat eggs, add vanilla and sugar, and beat well. Mix in butter. Alternately add milk and sifted ingredients to egg mixture to make a soft dough. Turn out on a floured board and knead lightly for about half a minute. Roll out to about ¼-inch thickness and cut with doughnut cutter. Fry in hot oil (375 degrees F) until golden brown. Drain and frost with maple cream.
