You can really taste the lemon in this. Be prepared to hand out the recipe every time you serve it.

Yield: Makes 1 loaf.

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • grated rind of 1 lemon
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

Cream the butter, and add the sugar and grated lemon rind. Add the eggs. Sift together the flour and baking powder and add alternately with the milk. Add the chopped walnuts. Bake in a greased loaf pan in a 375 degrees F oven for 35 minutes.

As soon as the bread is removed from the oven, pour over the surface a mixture of: 1/4 cup sugar, juice and grated rind of 1 large lemon

Let cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan.
