Mulled Wine

Ingredients

4 bottles medium-bodied red wine (such as Merlot or Pinot Noir)
5 cinnamon sticks, plus extra for garnish
1 orange, studded with 20 whole cloves, then quartered and seeds removed
1 cup sugar
Fresh orange slices

Instructions

Mix all ingredients in a large pot (or slow cooker) over low heat. Simmer gently at least 30 minutes before serving. (Don’t let it boil; once it boils, it spoils.) Add extra sugar if you prefer a sweeter wine.

Garnish with orange slices and cinnamon sticks and serve in wineglasses or clear teacups.
