Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies

1/2 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
grated rind of 1 lemon
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
2 tablespoons milk
2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg


Cream the butter, add the salt and lemon rind, and gradually the sugar. Beat in the eggs and the milk, and little by little add the dry ingredients sifted together. Drop by spoonfuls on cookie sheets. Sprinkle each cookie with sugar and bake in a 375 degree F oven for about 12 minutes.

My daughter loves these

My daughter loves these cookies! I leave out the nutmeg, but I do use the lemon rind. Her classmates love them as well and ask me to bring them for school parties. There's something about a nice, old-fashioned cookie that even sophisticated 3rd graders appreciate.
