Makes single crust for a 10- to 12-inch pie.

Ingredients

1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons shortening
2 to 4 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

Sift dry ingredients; rub in shortening until mixture forms coarse particles about the size of oatmeal flakes. Add water slowly, making a stiff dough. Roll out onto floured board.
