Serve this with a topping of whipped cream or foamy sauce.
1 cup flour
1/2 cup Indian meal (cornmeal)
1/3 cup maple syrup
1 cup cold water
1/2 cup each raisins and English currants
1 teaspoon baking soda, dissolved in 2 teaspoons hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt
Combine all ingredients and pour into well-greased top of double boiler. Cover and cook over boiling water for 2-½ hours, taking care that water boils continuously.
