Wonderful on a winter day.

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup bread flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup nuts-walnuts or pecan

Dissolve the sugar in the water and add the molasses and milk. Sift the flour, salt, baking powder, and soda together and add the whole-wheat flour unsifted. Mix all together, add the nuts, and bake in a greased pan in a slow oven (275 degrees F) for 2 hours.
