The winner: David Kobus!

Question: What is rime ice?

The answer: Rime ice is rough white granular ice formed by supercooled water droplets of fog freezing on contact with a surface it drifts past.

Rime ice is different than hoar ice—which develops the intricate, feather, fernlike patterns often admired on windows.
