You know its autumn when the dog starts sleeping on the bed again, instead of finding cool tile or hardwood.

I live in New York State and I know it's fall when I wake up in the morning and it's still dark out, and the morning air is crisp and cool. Also, I know it's fall when the leaves start changing color, and when my garden is full of old, dead vegetable plants from the recent summer.

Fall arrives for me when the perfect combination of things arrive--a crisp, cool day, cool enough to build the first fire, trees kissed with the bright, festive colors that celebrate the season, and the aromas of simmering chili, crackling logs, and mulled cider that welcome you into our home--FALL is our family's favorite season!!

I live in the Mid South and Autumn usually arrives here in late September or early October with cool, crisp mornings and evenings, loads of ripened apples, pears and persimmons. Autumn usually grips our area with the cool Friday evening prep football games, the opening of season for squirrel hunting and bow deer hunting and cool, crisp Saturday mornings in which we can do our autumnal yard house jobs in much cooler weather. Yard sales predominate the main roads and outskirts of local towns and festive events begin to take place county wide throughout the area. Our church celebrates its homecoming services in October, each year as do many other organizations in our area. I love autumn!
