My grandparents, from northern Italy, did everything according to the phases of the moon, including cutting their hair, which always had to be done on the new moon. My nonno died at 88 with a full head of beautiful hair and my mother's hair, at 82 years old, is thick and beautiful. My grandparents' gardens were always bountiful and I think it must have had something to do with the fact that they planted according to the ways of the old country, which was so in harmony with all of nature. I would like to have even one tenth of the knowledge that they learned by osmosis!

Yes, that is very true. My grandparents used to do that, as gramps was taught this technique by his father. Worked really well with most of our harvest.

Hi, Rena, You do not indicate where you are, but because you are asking late in September, I am going to presume that you are in the southern/sun belt. The Planting by the Moon Table in the 2012 print edition of the Almanac shows the best/Moon dates for a late planting of spinach (referring to your greens here) is October 15 to October 21. Turnip's second season planting dates are September 30 through October 14. If you are in an area that has a potential for frost, get the plants in now and hope for the best. We hope this helps!
