Annual Weather Summary
November 2008 to October 2009

Includes predictions for all or portions of Alaska (Anchorage, Bethel, Fairbanks, Kenai, Wasilla).

Winter temperatures will be about two degrees below normal, on average. November and March will both be about 7 degrees colder than normal, December will be relatively mild, and January and February will see large variations and changes in temperature. The coldest periods will occur in mid-February in the north; in mid-January and early March in the east-central region; in early February in the west-central region; in mid-January and early to mid-February in the south-central region; in late February and early March in the Panhandle; and in late January in the Aleutians. Precipitation will be above normal, with much-above-normal snowfall in the Panhandle, slightly above-normal snowfall in the south-central region, and near-normal snowfall elsewhere. The heaviest snowfalls will occur in early February in the north; in late March in the central regions; in mid-November and mid- to late February in the Panhandle; and in mid- to late February in the Aleutians..

April will be much colder than normal and May will be slightly colder than normal, on average. Precipitation will be below normal in the north and above normal in the south, with the heaviest snowfalls occurring in the first half of April in most areas, but in early May in the north and east central regions..

Summer temperatures will be about 3 degrees below normal, on average, in the eastern third of the state, about 2 degrees above normal in the west, and near or slightly below normal in central regions. The warmest period will be in early August. Precipitation will be above normal in the Aleutians and below normal elsewhere.

September and October temperatures will be near normal in the north and above normal in the south. Precipitation will be near or below normal in the east and above normal in the west. Snowfall will be above normal in most areas, with heavy snowfalls in mid-October in the northern and south-central regions.
