Summer officially begins on June 20. The Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer at 4:51 PM EDT. This is the longest day of the year and the astrological beginning of summer.

- The signs that begin the seasons are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn! They are called Cardinal signs. Individuals born under these signs can often be found in leadership roles. Those with Cardinal signs like to pioneer things and often don’t mind doing something other than the status quo.
- The signs in the middle of the seasons, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius, are considered Fixed signs. Whatever the season, it is pretty well ensconced by the time these souls incarnate. They like things to stay the same and have strong habits and opinions.
- At the end of a season, we have Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces, which are considered Mutable. These people sense that change is coming, so their personalities are a bit more flexible.

The Moon’s Influence
Did you know that the Moon takes 28 days to complete one round through the zodiac? So it stays in each sign for about 2 to 2½ days. As it goes through the signs, it creates an atmosphere that suggests what we feel like doing. These mirror the personality characteristics of each sign.
- For example, in Aries we might feel like starting something new or going on a long hike.
- In Cancer, feelings come to the fore.
The “Void of Course” Moon
But there is another phenomenon that occurs when the Moon has finished making aspects (sort of like its dancing partners) in a sign before it enters the next one. This is known as a “void of course” Moon. Sometimes, these periods last only a few moments and other times; they can persist for whole days.
When this happens, it’s almost like a Mercury retrograde period. Things can get slightly confused, or they don’t quite go as planned. Most of them are very short or occur when we are still sleeping. However, there are three days, the 2nd, 11th, and 25th when the Moon is a “void of course” Moon for a long period of time. See if you notice.
