My dog is a maltese and therefore suceptible to those ugly rust-coloured tear stains. He therefore cannot eat anything from a 4-legged animal and we feed him solely fish or chicken. Here is Max’s favorite food:

Ingredients:

1 medium sweet potato
3 celery stalks
1 small zucchini
1 red pepper
1/2 cup cooked brown rice
1 tbsp olive oil
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

Dice all the vegetables into very small pieces. Starting with the yam, then the celery, followed by the zucchini and red pepper, saute all ingredients (adding each as the previous is softened) over medium high heat in a skillet. When the veggies are done, add the cooked brown rice and stir well.

Poach the chicken breasts in water until fully cooked. Cool and dice into small pieces.

Stir the chicken into the vegetable/rice mixture and, voila, you have about a week to 10-day meal plan for your pet. A serving for Max is one small sized Ziploc container. They freeze well and can be microwaved for 20 seconds or so if your pet doesn’t like cold food.

Any green vegetable that your pet will eat can be substituted in the recipe. Max loves broccoli, shredded cabbage or asparagus. Just remember NO onions and no seasonings!
