3-Ingredient Cinnamon Ornaments
These homemade cinnamon ornaments are super simple to make using only three ingredients! They’re a lovely way to decorate the Christmas tree—and a fun craft for all ages.
Cinnamon “Dough” Ingredients
- 3/4 cup applesauce
- 4 ounces ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves

Cinnamon Dough Directions
- Mix applesauce, cinnamon, and cloves until smooth and clay-like.
- Sprinkle cinnamon on your tabletop and rolling pin, and roll the applesauce/spice mixture to about 1/8-inch thickness.
- Use cookie cutters or a small knife to cut out your shapes.
- With a small skewer make holes for hanging ribbons and draw details on the shapes.
- Place cutouts on a cookie sheet and put them in a 120 degree F oven.
- After 1-1/2 hours turn the oven off but leave the ornaments in overnight to dry.
Decorate with ribbons and hang on the Christmas tree or tie them to holiday gifts!
Makes about 20 fragrant ornaments.

This recipe did not work AT ALL..... the dough never turned to "clay" and totally fell apart. Very sad, BUT my house did smell delicious for a while!

If you even get that far with this horrible dough.
I tried to make this recipe last weejend. It was NOT EASY! After a long battle trying to make the ingredients into a "dough" ...they all fell apart after drying!
So sad I got weepy

Hi, Terri. This recipe will make about 20 ornaments.
I've made cinnamon apple sauce ornaments for years with my pre-kindergarten children. I use a recipe from my sister - 3/4 cup apple sauce and a 4.12 oz bottle of cinnamon. Mix the dough with your hands [I've gone to using surgical gloves so my hands are not brown any more :)], press out dough with hands - on table top is fine, use a cookie cutter, poke a hole with a straw and set to dry on wax paper or foil or napkins. Turning every day for about 2 or 3 days. No oven. Easy clean up. And, boy will your room smell nice!
The directions call for 120F temp oven. My oven's lowest setting is 170F.
Do you think a dehydrator would work as well and what heat temp do you think I should set it at? My dehydrator has a few heat & fan settings.

Hello, Irene. We think you can use the directions above even if your lowest oven temp is 170 degrees F. Turn the oven off after an hour and fifteen minutes, rather than an hour and a half.
