Whatsit? Take a Guess!

Have you ever found a curious old object in your attic or at a yard sale and thought “What IS it?” We call those “Whatsits.” Here are oldies but goodies from our archives.

Below is this month’s Whatsit—now solved! Great guesses, folks. Best answer goes to reader DDavey.

November Whatsit

Answer: They are swamp shoes for a horse to wear when working on soft ground. These shoes would be put on the hooves and the bolts tightened to keep them on. As these shoes fit only on the hard part of the hoof, they would not cause the horse any pain.
