Thursday, October 23, 2014: Partial Eclipse of the Sun
This partial solar eclipse is visible from most of North America (but not Hawaii). Western North America will see the full extent of the eclipse, while Eastern North America will only see the very beginning of the eclipse before the Sun sets below the horizon. The eclipse will begin at 12:38 pm PDT on October 23rd and will end at 4:52 pm, however the times during which the eclipse is visible from any specific location will vary significantly, with the eclipse typically starting between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm (PDT) and ending 2 – 3 hours later (or whenever the Sun sets below the horizon). For example, from San Francisco the eclipse will be visible from 1:51 pm to 4:32 pm (PDT).
