Gingerbread with Lemon Sauce


1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon allspice


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cream butter, sugar, and eggs. Fold in molasses. Add flour, buttermilk and spices with soda alternately, stirring well after each addition. Put into an 8x8-inch pan and bake for 25 minutes.
