Golden Puffs


2-1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon mace
1/4 cup corn oil
3/4 cup milk
1 egg, beaten


Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and mace together, then add the oil, milk and beaten egg. Stir with a fork until thoroughly mixed.

Drop by teaspoonsful into deep hot oil or fat at 375 degrees F. Fry until golden brown – about 3 minutes. Drain on absorbent paper. Roll the warm puffs in sugar.


Makes 2-1/2 dozen.
