1 pound lean ground beef
1 pound ground turkey
1 cup bread crumbs
2 large eggs, slightly beaten
1 medium onion, minced
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Combine all of the meatball ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Mix well and shape into 1-inch balls. Place the meatballs in a 13x9-inch baking dish. Preheat the oven to 350ºF and make the sauce.

1 can (16 ounces) cranberry jelly
1 bottle (12 ounces) chili sauce
2 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice

In a saucepan on medium heat, whisk together all of the sauce ingredients and bring to a simmer, stirring often. Reduce the heat to low and cook, uncovered, for 10 minutes, stirring often. Pour the sauce over the meatballs. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes, or until the meatballs are nicely browned.

To serve:

1 large round loaf of Italian bread, for serving

Slice the top from the Italian bread and scoop out the inside, leaving a 1-inch-thick shell. Fill the bread with hot meatballs, and place on a platter with toothpicks for spearing. (This recipe can be adapted for a main dish or buffet supper by making the meatballs larger.)
