Old-Fashioned Rice Pudding


1 quart milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup uncooked brown rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg


Mix all the ingredients together and put in a casserole. Bake, uncovered, for 3 hours in a 300 degrees F oven.

During the first hour, stir the pudding every 20 minutes.

Serve with a lacing of cream.


Serves 6.

Old fashioned rice pudding

Had to throw it out. Recipe says to bake for 3 hours - I gave it 5.5 and it still hadn't thickened and rice was still crunchy - and yes, my oven was working the whole time. Inedible. So disappointing - I HATE throwing food out.
