UFO Social Club Barbecue Sauce


2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large yellow onion, chopped
1 14-1/2-ounce can tomato paste
1 14-1/2-ounce can tomatoes in juice
1/2 cup white wine vinegar
2 tablespoons dark-brown sugar
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon kosher or sea salt
1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon chile powder
2 tablespoons molasses
1/4 cup Basic Barbecue Rub
1/4 cup orange juice
4 tablespoons yellow mustard
1 12-ounce bottle dark beer


In a large heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat the oil over medium-high heat, then saute the onion, stirring frequently until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to very low and simmer 2 hours, stirring occasionally, scraping the bottom to prevent scorching. Transfer the barbecue sauce to a food processor or blender and puree (in batches, if necessary).
