For many years, my wife and I owned and operated a full-service “sit and fit” family shoe store. When we sold that business a few years ago, many people asked us, “Why did you sell the shoe store? Were you tired of smelling stinky feet all day?” That wasn’t our top reason for bowing out, but occasionally it was a rather unpleasant aspect that went with the territory.
In most situations, it wasn’t the customers’ feet that were stinky; it was what they were wearing on their feet that gave off the unpleasant aromas. Fortunately, we carried a miraculous product by the name of Stink Free Spray that’s extremely effective at deodorizing shoes, boots, sandals, moccasins, and so on.
But footwear isn’t the real source of the problem; the main culprit is foot sweat. Here are the stinky facts…
The human foot has around 250,000 sweat glands that collectively release nearly 1 cup of moisture every day. Sweat by itself is odorless, but it provides an ideal environment for certain bacteria (which are naturally present on our skin) to grow and produce malodorous substances. Consequently, more odor is created when feet are trapped inside footwear with inadequate air ventilation for prolonged periods.
So how do you make that nasty smell go away? You guessed it: Stink Free Spray.
Created by a company called 2Toms, Stink Free is a powerful deodorizer that’s been scientifically formulated to kill the bacteria in footwear. By destroying the bacteria that grows in your shoes, you’ll have feet (and footwear) that will be less likely to smell.
Just a couple sprayings of Stink Free inside the offending items, and even the strongest odor is eliminated. For best results, I’ve found that spraying my footwear after each time I wear the shoes keeps them odor-free. Stink Free doesn’t cover up the smell with any fragrances, so you can use it safely in any shoes that you wear with or without socks. And for smelly socks and other clothing, there’s Stink Free Sports Detergent.
Another terrific “foot care” product from 2Toms is BlisterShield. This remarkable powder repels moisture, keeping feet dry and blister-free during lengthy periods of physical activity. It’s a “must” for runners and power-walkers.
It’s easy to use: Simply put one level teaspoonful of BlisterShield into each sock. Shake the socks to spread the powder uniformly. For added protection, you can sprinkle some additional BlisterShield behind your heel after the sock is on. 2Toms also offers other antifriction “Shield” formulations to prevent chafing, sores, and rashes.
Writing about stinky shoes and blisters are not favorite topics of mine, but I like to think of this blog as a community service to help those who deal with these afflictions—myself included. I’ve had my share of odiferous footwear and blisters on my feet, but thanks to 2Toms products, those problems are history—just like owning the shoe store!
