RE:BOO WHO

Amen to that. Without the snow pack in the hills, there will be a drought and a lot of wildfires.

Weather

Where you come from Seattle rains to much your crazy to think that.....

"Cooler and wetter than normal"?

Normal in Seattle is for it to start raining promptly the day after Labor Day (why do you think they call the festival Bumbershoot?). It would rain every day of September, which was disconcerting when I first moved here over 22 years ago, used to warmer and dryer autumns. A normal Seattle autumn would have beautiful autumn color for a week before a rain and wind storm knocked all the leaves to the ground. Some summers, we would have what we called Juneuary, with no real summer happening. The last five years have been much hotter and dryer than normal, more California-like, so I guess you've never experienced normal Seattle weather. This year has been the hottest and dryest on record.

Seattle/Olympia Snow and Ice driving

Get slip-on ice cleats for your shoes -- yes, they work great and are modestly prices -- and tires with studs/chains It is just as icy here in eastern Washington. My biggest fear is western Washington residents who have relocated and are experiencing their initial winters here. Two times, I have lost vehicles due to their poor ability to equip their rigs for the weather, not to mention their failure to learn the skills needed for winter driving. Please learn and then teach your neighbors and children.

Cooler than normal...

I am in the Portland/Vancouver area and we have been having lower than normal temps along with higher than normal rain. 09/15 we had .76 inches of rain in just one day! Our weather is becoming unpredictable. No matter how much technology we have.

Winter coming soon

My hens have starting their molting process this past week!! Would sure like to have an estimated date of 1st snowfall for Couer dAlene area this year.. anyone know?

Washington - Oregon October Trip

This is good info. I live in Hawaii, my girlfriend and I will be traveling in starting October 9 from Seattle to Olympic National Park, down the coast, Oregon Coast, Mt. Hood area, then to Portland. Trying to figure out what the weather might be like. From what I gather here and in the comments, it'll be wet and might be a little chilly. That's OK with us, as long as we can still hike and explore. Hopefully we get some nice fall-type of foliage and beauty.

Reply to Ben in Hawaii

You are coming to the PNW atvthe best time for Fall foliage! Make sure you allow plenty of time for the Columbia Gorge on your way up to Mt. Hood. Stop by Crown Pointe for spectacular photo ops, Multnomah Falls, Bonneville Dam & the fish hatchery where Herman the Sturgeon (over 5 feet long) lives, the wine & fruit orchards on the "Fruit Loop" then on your return, cross over the "Bridge of the Gods" at Cascade Locks and come west on highway 14 in Washington so you can see across the river, different viewpoint. You can get back across on I-205 or I-5 back to Portland. Honestly, don't waste your time IN Portland. The real PNW is all around it!

Very cool/cold Summer in Eureka Calif.

The days have been around 59-64 degrees on average during the day and the night temps much cooler and misty. Two weeks ago the leaves began turning a lovely deep maroon, orange, and red. I think winter will be early this year and very wet.

Early Fall

I have noticed some trees and bushes are already changing color. Are we in for an early Fall/Winter?
