Climate change

Wow, I guess you know better than 100s of scientists who have studied the issue for their entire lives. Wishful thinking won’t stop the freight train that is upon us. But go ahead, buy some beachfront property in the Florida keys if you’re so sure.

Dry November

hi all i,m a retired US Navy meteorologist here in San francisco, I grew up in the lower Sacramento valley near Galt. the weather the last few years has been anyhting but normal, which leads me to the new belief that this is the new normal. my studies show that for the exception of 2017 when the storm door was wide open from Oct (16) all the way to May, the State has been dry especially the first few month of the rainy season Nov, Dec, and Jan. which climate wise is our wettest period . Now its 2018-19 rainy season and here we go again. looking forward at the forecast models its dry for the rest of the month. maybe a weak system around the 18th , but its looking less likely as we mover along through the Month. i love the rain its the Atmosphere in motion, hopefully i am going to be wrong in my forecast for the new normal.

Dry November and December

I agree with Mike that it will be a dry winter. In particular, it would be nice to have a white winter in Yosemite Valley; alak and forsoothe, I predict no rain or snow for Yosemite Valley, just the same old warm, sunny days. It hasn’t been cold in the valley at all for the month of October. October also ‘boasted’ one or two days of rain and the autumn leaves did not show with the brilliant colors like they did in October 2016. Hope I’m wrong.

Dry Winter 2018? What day you now?

Robert,
It’s been raining consistently for 2 weeks now through the end of November and into the first part of December 2018. You were hoping to be wrong - congratulations, YOU WERE WRONG!

Rain

I have to agree. This weather feels very unnatural to me. I miss the rain. Think of how things look, smell, and feel the morning after a rain storm. The dry air is starting to work on my nerves. Las Vegas has seen more rain than us.

RAIN

Okay. I am a big wet weather fan. I heard this on a weather forum several years back. Pls don’t laugh
After that huge earthquake in Japan. I heard it was so powerful it actually tilted the earths Axis 1-3 percent. If so would that have shifted the weather? So San Francisco would actually be LA type weather? Please don’t laugh

Tilting of the earth

Yes the big quake in Japan did in fact alter weather patterns. When the. Island moved it altered the ocean currents. Add to that the big quake in the south Pacific and currents were definitely altered. Warm water currents moved a bit north that has resulted in our weather patterns shifting north. San Francisco will begin to see San Diego type weather. San Diego will experience southern Baja Californina type weather. The conditions that create El Ninio and La Nina have been altered . look for a "NEW" norm that most of us will not like. Extended droughts, water restrictions will become a way of life.

Snow

Hi Mike,
Thank you for this great information. May I ask, what would be a good holiday vacation with snow fun for the family in the states, considering “this weather we are having now is the new normal”? Planned to spend at Yosemite National Park by looks like there is going to be no snow as of week of Christmas.

Rain in the forecast

Mike would love to know if you see any rain at all coming our way and would love to stay in touch

Your forecast

so much for forecasting the weather. its pouring in the bay area and has been for the last week.
