More than Snow birds in Florida are Old

While in Florida as a snowbird from Canada I put up with many old retired permanent residents poking along on highways and roads, their signal always on but not turning, cigarette dangling from the lip, talking on their cell, and in no hurry to get anywhere - that place is usually the same place they always go to but when in front of me they don't know where that is exactly. Us snowbirds pump a lot of tax dollars and profits into your state thereby keeping your taxes down. Rather than be upset about us being here a thank you would be sufficient, You are welcome.

I get you. No matter where

I get you. No matter where you are from whether out of state or residents, the older retired drivers are a Pain. I am old myself but my daughter even tells me I still drive normal. You need to respect others on the road and if you can’t drive near the speed limits then maybe you should not be driving. An extremely slow driver is just bad dangerous as a fast driver.

I am not sure what part of

I am not sure what part of Florida you live but I lived here since 1962 and it has always been hot during April till October. It is no hotter now than the past 56 years. You can Google and see. Average temps in Florida during summer months has always been in the 90’s. The winters will vary between 1-2 freezing nights to 6-8 freezing nights but not bad.

Umm... humidity???

The temperatures might be around the same but everyone knows that the humidity has gotten worse! I live in South Florida Broward county to be exact and it is definitely hotter than it was when I was younger!

Freezing nights

Said no one ever who has sensitive plants outside. Don't get me wrong. I have lived here 56 years and am used to it. But I don't like when my plants suffer damage from freezing nights.

Hotter weather/climate

Yes Valerie, it does seem hotter. If my memory serves me the temps in South Florida in the late 50’s to mid 60’s were higher. I was 50+ years younger and there were few high rises between us and the beach. Coming from Chicago, dad could not stand in and in 1960 he refrigerated the house. No, really, that is what he built in the attic, with a waterfall outside, connected to the pump for heat in winter.
Humidity is the same, temperatures are equally crazy the all around climate is being modeled by computer scientists and meteorologists to be worse. What cannot be denied is Miami Beach slowly going underwater along with Brickell Ave

De-nial isn't just a river in Egypt

It's not your imagination. It is getting hotter. The records are clear and convincing. I went to Venice High School. In l960, the number of days at 90 degrees F. or hotter was 47. In 2018, the number of days at 90 degrees or hotter was 90. This is a trend, not an anomaly. Just like frogs in a pot of boiling water, we can adapt to gradual temperature change. Unfortunately, frogs don't jump out of the water as it heats up and they will eventually die as the water reaches a boil. The temperatures will continue to rise in spite of climate change denial, and more people will die from the heat. Denial can be a protective defense mechanism until it isn't. Thanks for your post. It amazes me how many people ignore the facts and the concensus of scientific opinion. Maybe it's the heat.

What would Fla. without the

What would Fla. without the influx of tourist $$$. You could just probably just pay more taxes an fees. Does that sound better than waiting at a red light for 20 more seconds

Global warming and snowbirds

Don’t forget that we snow birds bring a lot of money to your state every winter. When things were lean 10 years ago we were still there keeping things going.

Florida - love it or leave it, your choice

I have lived literally all over Florida, north, south, east and west FL for 40 years. Why on earth would anyone complain about the weather and still live here? It's not hotter than it use to be and its no more humid than before. Global warming is a hoax. Its called "weather" and weather changes in cycles over several years. Even the Bible speaks of seven years of drought and famine. Florida is a great state with lots to offer. Focus on the positive and live your life in peace. Otherwise, go north or west. The running joke is that no one retires and moves up north.
