Long-range predictions

Hi Barbara, In The 2018 Old Farmer’s Almanac, June should start out sunny and warmer than normal in the northern part of this region, with thunderstorms at the end of May. However, keep in mind that long-range predictions are made a year in advance and we’re looking at trends versus normal, so we don’t get down to a daily forecast (much less hourly). Please see your short-range forecast as you get nearer! All best wishes for your daughter’s wedding and fingers crossed, indeed!

Getting outdoor plants ready for spring/summer

Just curious... My Banana plants have already started to sprout, in spite of the fluctuations in temps here in Central Georgia (Barnesville, Ga). Should I go ahead and clear my mulching so they may continue to sprout and expand ?? Should we expect another cold snap/frost before end of April?? Thanks

Outdoor Plants in Central GA

Based on our Frost Dates Calculator, the last frost in your area tends to occur around April 11. We’re also predicting cooler than normal temperatures for late April, so we would recommend leaving the mulch on for the time-being—maybe until the last week of April. Remember, it’s always better to err on the side of caution and to look at local weather forecasts before doing anything in the garden!
