Summer will be hotter than normal, with the hottest periods in early and mid-June, early to mid-July, and early to mid-August. Rainfall will be near normal, especially in the south. Why is Richmond, VA considered North? It has Carolina weather.
Why would Richmond, VA be considered North when most of the time it is below the Jetstream and consistently has Carolina weather? Doesn't seem to make sense.
Why is Richmond, VA, in Region 2
Richmond is not considered to be north by us; however, we do consider it to be in the Atlantic Corridor. The weather regions as drawn for the Almanac are based on the climatological movement of weather systems (as we note in the Almanac every year). This means that the weather, while not the same conditions, is often delivered by the same system. For ex., a storm may bring you rain but it dellivers snow further north in areas in (and abutting) this region. That’s why we often predict “snow north, rain south” over a period of days.
